MICHAEL LAWS
LUCY'S DADDY
UPDATE ON LUCY: Friday 28
March 2008
With a little luck, Lucy and Leo will return home today
from Starship and our family can be reunited again.
Yesterday
Lucy again went into surgery to have a portocath installed
- an intravenous device attached to her shoulder
that actually rests under the skin. She also had another
lumbar puncture, another bone marrow biopsy and another
injection of chemotherapy so woke up sore and tired. She
now has a bulge on her shoulder the size of a golfball
although it is expected to shrink in size over the next
few days.
On the up side, she is starting to recover her
appetite although it is incremental stuff.
Being home - and reunited with Zoe - should also have a
positive effect.
One day I will get around to answering
all the cards and messages of support we have received
... but for the moment
I want to say how thoughtful and life-sustaining they have
been. Lucy has opened a number of extraordinarily beautiful
and generous gifts from strangers and I wish the givers
could see the delight that has created.
Thank you.
It is an inadequate expression of my family's
gratitude but, rest assured, no act of thoughtfulness has
gone unnoticed.
Lucy is a very lucky girl to have been adopted by so many.
Leo and I are in your debt.
We have also engaged a nanny
- Tash - and both the wee girls have taken to her with
affection. She is Leo's age
and a local girl so that assists a busy household when
we most need it. And this household is busy - we don't
sleep at night here. We drop." |
