LATEST NZ GEOGRAPHIC BOARD DECISION "CRAZY": IMPLICATIONS FOR WANGANUI
Wanganui Mayor Michael Laws today said that the latest pronouncement from the NZ Geographic Board “and its ongoing attempt to rename New Zealand, is not just crazy but a great pointer to their political and cultural bias”.
The board has today released a media release saying that neither the North nor South Islands have naming status (they made the same charge against Wanganui) and advancing the idea of joint existing and Maori names for all places in New Zealand.
“Where else could you go in the world and the locals have actually two different names for everywhere? These people on the NZ Geographic Board are cultural zealots.”
Mayor Laws said that the referendum on Wanganui’s identity and naming would give the board a clear indication of locals’ preference.
“But after today’s announcement, you can see their agenda. It is political correctness of the worst kind – unthinking, unfeeling and completely immune from any heritage and history that is not Maori. Their bias is obvious.”
