STEELFORM WANGANUI – OUR DISTRICT’S HEROES!
Mayor Michael Laws says there will be a council-organised street parade, a civic reception and a renewal of the Wanganui rugby team’s Freedom of the City following their win in the Heartland championship last Saturday.
Steelform Wanganui beat Mid Canterbury 34-13 in the final in Christchurch, winning the Meads Cup for the second year in a row.
“This Wanganui rep team has entered the lexicon of Wanganui legends with their repeat Heartland triumph,” Mayor Laws said.
“I am so proud of these magnificent men, their coaches and management. They have put Wanganui to the national forefront and exhibited true skill, guts, enterprise and real hard work.
“They are this district’s heroes and we must, and will, properly salute them.”
